SOME CHANGES IN THE WEATHER: We like to be up front, so please be
advised that our temperature forecast for the next few days could be right
on track or substantially off. This is due to a cold front arriving early
tomorrow and then going back north as a warm front on Saturday. We may have
to resort to the old time-proven method of coin flipping. Anyway, look at
our day-by-day forecast for all of the details.

In the rain department, we may see a few showers between midnight
and daybreak and a better chance of showers Thursday and Friday, although no
especially impressive rainfall amounts. Probably our best chance of getting
some decent rain will be later Friday and Saturday. At this time, we think
Sunday will be dry with quite a bit of sunshine.

THE CACTUS ARE FALLING DOWN: Ron Morgan is one of our e-forecast
subscribers in the Phoenix area. I want to quote his e-mail received
yesterday, "I tell you, this weather in Arizona is really getting weird. The
old desert just can't take this much water. Sadly, some of the 100-year plus
old cactus are falling over because the ground is so saturated. The rain
woke me up Monday night. It rained harder than I ever saw in 9 years of
living in Alabama. The water just lays on top of the ground until it
eventually runs off and there is no end in sight. The Salt River is actually
flowing-it looks like a real river."

In addition to Ron's report, yesterday in Arizona saw 2 feet of snow
bury Flagstaff, while at the same time the NWS in Phoenix had to issue a
tornado warning. Hail accumulated 2 inches deep in NW Phoenix.

BITTER, BITTER COLD: A life threatening 43 below zero at Embarrass,
Minnesota this morning. It was 39 below in Grand Forks, North Dakota with a
wind chill of 57 below...6 to 10 inches of snow expected in Chicago today
and tonight and 10 to 15 inches in Des Moines...an ice storm warning
continues for the Kansas City area...Missouri also dealing with flooding
with 4.80 inches of rain at Neosho in the last 24 hours and 3.64 inches in
Springfield...I thought it was funny when I saw that 95 below zero with
winds 113 mph at Vostok in Antarctica yesterday. We knew right away that was
an error because they are in the middle of summer.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Sure am glad football season is over.
I probably won't watch another game until next September. Tonight I start a
new effort to get in bed at a decent hour and get little Miss Molly back on
schedule. She stayed up with me until well past midnight last night and she
slept until almost 10:00 this morning. I need to start dragging her out of
bed when I get up at 5:00 to get back on our most enjoyable early, early
walks...last night had an after midnight vigorous play session with her. She
never gets tired of those. When I went to bed, she scratched out a place and
immediately collapsed and went to sleep only to be awakened and moved to
another bed a few minutes later. She moaned and groaned the whole way. Not
really fair to her, but life goes on. I still like that old saying, "there
is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.
