...Dry for Celebrations...

GOOD MORNING! It now looks like any rain chances will hold off until after
tonight’s New Years Eve celebrations across the area. Rain chances should
be on the rise starting Saturday night across the area. But our warm regime
will continue into the middle of next week, with temperatures well above
normal. In fact, our highs will be in the 60s through next Wednesday. We
probably will post a couple of 70s in there also.

OUR FORECAST: Warm and damp will be our forecast into next week. Shower
chances will return Saturday night and be with us through Wednesday, when a
cold front comes through. It is hard to pinpoint when the best chances for
rain will be, but there are hints that it will be Monday and pretty
definitely Wednesday. Thursday should be cooler with highs only in the 50s
and a few lingering showers.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Alabama takes on the Minnesota Golden Gophers at 11 a.m.
today in the Coliseum in Nashville. There will be a slight chance of some
light rain showers, but that should not be much of a problem. Temperatures
will be nice, in the middle 60s by the end of the game. Winds may be a
factor, coming out of the south at 10-20 mph. New Orleans: tomorrow night
with feature only a slight chance of showers. There will be a chance of
showers and storms Sunday through Monday. It will be dry and comfortable in
the Superdome for the Sugar Bowl, however, with a light breeze of 2 mph.

ON THIS DATE IN 1963: Coach “Bear” Bryant said later that the only thing
that could have messed up his team’s chances in the Sugar Bowl against Ole
Miss in New Orleans would have been if it were to snow. Well, much to his
chagrin, it did snow the night before the big game in the Crescent City, an
amazing 4 ½ inches. Alabama would win the game by a 12-7 margin. An
incredible 15 inches of snow fell at Meridian MS, and over 10 inches at Bay.
St. Louis MS.
