...Nice Week Ahead...

GOOD MORNING! Now, let the returns begin. Not only the returns of
presents, but the return of warmer temperatures and eventually moisture. We
will see readings as much as 10 degrees above normal by the end of the week.


NICE WEATHER: I am jealous to hear that lots of folks have today
off. But I know that lots of you will be at the mall in the customer
service lines. But, at least you will have nice weather as you head out
today, wherever you are headed. Under mostly sunny skies, temperatures will
rise into the lower 50s by afternoon. This will be quite balmy compared to
the last few days. Our winds will become southerly on Tuesday, and will be
accompanied by the return of partly cloudy skies. Partly cloudy skies will
continue on Wednesday. A disturbance on Thursday might trend us a little
more to the cloudy side, and there is an outside chance of a shower. A cold
front will approach close enough to trigger a chance of showers on Friday,
but I still believe that most of the precipitation will hold off until after
the ball drops on New Years Eve. The weekend promises to be damp and the
following week wet.

INDONESIAN DISASTER: The worst earthquake measured around the
globe in 40 years produced a series of tidal waves that spread out from the
epicenter of the 8.9 tremor early Sunday morning. The undersea earthquake
was centered just off the coast of Indonesia. Water inundated coastal
sections as far away as Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka. The death toll is
over 10,000.

ON THIS DATE IN 2001: As Finnish Captain Ludde Ingvall and his crew
looked on in amazement, a violent waterspout rapidly approached their 80
foot yacht Nicorette in the Annual Sydney to Hobart Race off the Bass coast
of Australia. As the crew of the heavily favored yacht rushed to lash their
mainsail, the ominous funnel began scattering the fleet of yachts. The men
had to cower below deck as the tornado ripped the sail from the mast and
large hail began hammering them. The Nicorette was flipped on its side and
the racing team said they were able to look up into the funnel as it passed.
