...Merry Christmas!...

GOOD MORNING! Well, our much ballyhooed low pressure system is there this
morning, over the western Gulf of Mexico. It is far enough south to keep
significant wintry precipitation well to the south of us. A mix of light
wintry precipitation is expected to occur along the immediate Gulf Coast,
south of I-10 early this morning. Accumulations, if any, will be very
light. A few bridges could become slippery, but that is about all. As
temperatures warm into the 40s, any precipitation will change to all rain.

TEXAS SNOWS: A variety of winter weather advisories and even a winter storm
warning were in effect over South Texas last night as the low pressure
system spread moisture into the cold air over the Lone Star State.
Accumulations of up to two inches were expected across parts of South Texas.

What an unlikely place for a White Christmas! Brownsville was looking for
their first significant snowfall since 1895.

OUR WEATHER: With the low far to the south, our weather is benign. After
temperatures stayed below freezing all day over parts of the area on Friday,
readings were quite cold again last night, mostly in the lower 20s.
Readings today will quite chilly again, with sunshine through high clouds.
Most areas will make the lower 40s for highs. The entire area will go
beneath freezing again tonight with clearing skies, and then a nice warm up
will commence on Sunday. With lots of sunshine again, readings will climb
to near 50 tomorrow and well into the 50s on Monday.

By Tuesday, we should make 60, with mild daytime temperatures in the 60s for
the remainder of the week. High pressure will be east of Alabama by then,
and our winds will shift around to the southeast in response, bringing about
the nice warming. Our next rain chance will come Friday and Saturday as a
cold front approaches.

ON THIS DATE IN 1983: Coldest Christmas Day of record in the central and
eastern United States. More than 125 record low temperatures for the date.
Twenty four of those records were all-time records for the month of
December. Galveston TX recorded 14F and Huntsville recorded a low of -1F.
