...Cold Air Returns In A Big Way...

Yet another big blast of frigid Arctic air rolls into Alabama today on strong northwest winds. Wind chill values will drop into the single digits at times, with temperatures holding in the low 30s most of the day. A few snow flurries are possible during the early morning hours, but as yesterday’s big storm pulls away from the state dry air will take over pretty quickly.

SANTA WILL LOVE IT: The cold air will stay in place through Christmas day. A disturbance that forms over the Gulf of Mexico is expected to remain well to the south of us, so no white Christmas for north or central Alabama this year. But, if the moisture can nudge inland just a bit, it is possible for a few snowflakes to fall in places like Mobile, Gulf Shores, Pensacola, and Destin tomorrow night and early Christmas morning. A very rare event for the immediate coast.

WARMER DAYS: A warming trend begins on Sunday, and the overall upper air flow goes through a major change which should keep real cold air well to the north of Alabama during the week after Christmas, and maybe even into the first few days of 2005.

At this time it looks like our next decent chance of rain will come around the middle part of next week.

A REAL WHITE CHRISTMAS: A snow emergency was declared in Cincinnati yesterday, where one foot of snow was expected by this morning. Snow amounts exceeding ten inches were reported late last night in parts of Southern Illinois and Indiana and sections of western and northern Kentucky.

BAMA RAIN: Totals yesterday included 2.09” at Brookley Field in Mobile, .85” at Bessemer, and .56” at Riverchase.
