...Much Colder By Sunday...

ANOTHER ARCTIC BLAST AHEAD: Get set for another shot of very cold
air this weekend. While we will be close to 50 today and tomorrow, very cold
Arctic air will plunge southward into Alabama Saturday night and Sunday.
Temperatures will fall into the 30s Sunday morning and pretty much stay
there all day. Strong winds will put wind chill values in the single digits
at times, and a few snow flurries are likely. A dusting of snow will be
possible across higher terrain over northeast Alabama, but we do not expect
any accumulation as far south as I-20.

By Monday morning, low temperatures in the 13 to 23 degree range
will be likely across north and central Alabama, with the colder valleys
close to 13, and the ridge tops closer to 23. Most communities will be in
the upper teens.

PRE-CHRISTMAS STORM: We believe temperatures will warm sufficiently
for precipitation to fall in the form of rain when the next storm system
begins to affect the state Tuesday of next week. In our forecast package, we
will mention the chance of rain at times beginning Tuesday afternoon lasting
into Wednesday. There is some chance the rain could briefly change to light
snow as much colder air returns Wednesday night and Thursday, but for now
the chance of any significant accumulation looks relatively small. Just not
a big deal.

CHRISTMAS STORM? There seems to be a much better opportunity of some
snow across Alabama with the next storm system, which could begin as early
as Christmas eve. All of the ingredients will be around, if the current
model trends verify: a good moisture supply, a surface low in the Gulf of
Mexico, favorable jet structure, and a good depth of cold air. Way, way too
early to tell if everything will come together at the right time. We will be
able to make a specific call on this event early next week.
