...More Very Cold Air Down the Road...
Lots of weather to discuss today. Today will be rather quiet with
ample sunshine and temperatures reaching the low 50s in most places this
afternoon. Slightly cooler air slips in here tomorrow and Saturday with
highs dropping back into the mid to upper 40s. Then, the fun and games will
begin. Here we go:
SUNDAY: A major blast of Arctic air arrives. For now we have high
temperatures in the mid 30s, but many places would stay below freezing all
day. A few snow flurries are likely; the ground could become white across
higher terrain in northeast Alabama, but we don't expect any accumulation
down this way.
MONDAY: Looks like we could drop into the 12 to 17 degree range by
early Monday morning. Probably colder than the lows we saw around here
yesterday morning.
DECEMBER 22-24: A storm system will affect the deep south. A
majority of the computer models right now suggest this will be a rain event
for Alabama, with a possible change to snow on the backside as colder air
returns. We are not comfortable making a specific forecast right now, but we
will give it a shot tomorrow morning.
CHRISTMAS DAY: I think we can promise cold weather. Most likely dry
and very cold across the deep south.
BEYOND CHRISTMAS: Model consistency is not good beyond Christmas.
There have been some hints of a second storm that tries to form in the
December 26-28 range, but some model runs do not show anything in that time
frame at all.
It looks like we will have a temporary break from the polar express
during the final days of December as the jet shifts back to the north.
