WARMER WEATHER AHEAD: That warming trend that we have been
advertising is underway and for the rest of the week, starting tomorrow, we
will see high temperatures topping the 60-degree mark. In fact, we are
predicting mid 60s for highs Thursday all the way through Sunday. There will
be some clouds moving across at times, but quite a bit of sunshine. The
latest weather models (ugh) have backed off somewhat on the chances of rain
over the weekend. However, with our current weather pattern, we still think
there is a slight risk on Friday and a slightly better chance on Saturday,
but certainly not an all day rain event. The high temperatures down the road
will be as much as 10 to 14 degrees warmer than normal for the end of
December. Enjoy those milder temperatures, because winter is far from over.

We still have all of January and February as prime winter months. If
we had 1,000 years of weather records, January would probably average out to
be the coldest month in the long term. Of course, that flip-flops from year
to year.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the Music City Bowl in Nashville Friday,
temperatures will be between 58 and 62 during the game between Alabama and
Minnesota. There is about a 1 in 3 chance of a shower during the game.

WANDERING AIMLESSLY: Hope you don't mind this little trek around
the globe every day, but I think it's interesting to know what's going on in
different places...most of the snow has melted in the Smokies, but way up on
Mt. LeConte there is still 9 inches on the ground...that pales compared to
the snow that's going to fall in western mountains due to a gigantic storm
still off shore. This sounds like a paradox, but as much as 8 to 14 inches
of snow is expected in the mountains of Death Valley National Park-most of
it above 5,000 feet...enormous amount of rain already falling in California
and they could get 6 to 7 inches more over the next five days...in the high
country this will translate to snow by the foot instead of by the
inch...already this storm has dumped 11.50 inches of rain at Figueroa
Mountain in Santa Barbara County and 10 inches at Old Man Mountain in
Ventura County...lots of flooding around Los Angeles...cold spot this
morning down here where 48 states are neighbors, was 9 below in Watertown
and Glenn Falls, New York and in Frenchville and Houlton, Maine...good thing
the Hawaiian Bowl has already been played, because Honolulu got 3.58 inches
of rain yesterday.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Poor little Miss Molly. She is still
recovering from hyperactivity over the Christmas holidays. It was extremely
rare last night for her to turn down a play session. I rolled her rubber
ball directly in front of her and she just hung her head off the couch,
watched it go by and then curled up sound asleep again. When I went to bed
at midnight, I picked her up off the couch and I got a deep groan and moan.
I put her on the bed beside me and she passed out instantly and didn't move
a muscle...we were out very early for the legendary half-mile walk and she
met her little friend named Peanut. He's about 5 years old and also a
Shih-tsu. Molly is far more friendly with dogs than they are with her.
Sometimes Molly's over-inflated enthusiasm sort of frightens other dogs, she
is the same way with humans. She would make a great ambassador in the dog
world. Life goes on and we need every day we can get. Thanks to Molly, I
will live 15 years longer than normal.
