...Cool, Dry Week Ahead...

GOOD MORNING! A beautiful scene as I drove back into Trussville from the
airport yesterday afternoon. A rather isolated heavy shower was over the
town, and the curtains of rain were backlit by the setting sun. Nice sight!

DREARY DAY AHEAD: Well, if you needed a little touch of winter to get you
in the holiday mood, this is it. Skies will remain mostly cloudy. Skies
should remain cloudy most of the day with a brisk northwest wind.
Temperatures will not get out of the forties all day long. There is also a
chance of a few sprinkles from time to time. Skies should clear rapidly
this evening and readings will drop into the lower to middle 30s.

REST OF THE WEEKEND: By Sunday morning, high pressure over the Gulf of
Mexico will be ridging over Alabama, giving us a good deal of sunshine.
Temperatures will rise into the middle 50s.

NEXT WEEK: A reinforcing shot of cool air will arrive behind a cold front
on Monday. This front should be dry, although there could be a little light
rain during the early morning hours. Much of the state will experience a
hard freeze by Wednesday morning, with lows in the lower to middle 20s.
Freezing temperatures are expected each morning Tuesday through Friday.

NEXT RAIN CHANCE: Another front will approach on Friday, but again it will
also be on the dry side. In fact, if anything, there may be a few spotty,
light showers associated with it.

CHRISTMAS WEEK: The numerical weather prediction model ensembles don't
foretell any exceptionally cold air out there through Christmas. A broad
trough should cover the eastern half of the country that week, but it will
not be able to transport appreciable amounts of cold air to the south. The
crystal ball indicates some wet weather at midweek that week, but it should
be gone, and it should be liquid, not frozen.

ON THIS DATE IN 1998: Snow finally fell in Syracuse NY, the latest that the
snowy city had recorded its first measurable snow of the season. It was
four days after Las Vegas and Phoenix saw snow!
