THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR THE
AREAS OF PICKENS...SHELBY...TUSCALOOSA...TALLADEGA...JEFFERSON...
FAYETTE...CLEBURNE...CALHOUN...ST. CLAIR...WALKER...LAMAR...ETOWAH...
BLOUNT...WINSTON...MARION AND CHEROKEE. THE WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL
MIDNIGHT CST WEDNESDAY MORNING.
THE AREA OF THE WATCH IS ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM ALICEVILLE TO
TUSCALOOSA...ALABASTER...TALLADEGA...AND HEFLIN...INCLUDING THE
INTERSTATE 20 AND 59 CORRIDORS EAST OF TUSCALOOSA...AS WELL AS
INTERSTATE 459. LOCATIONS IN THE WATCH AREA INCLUDE: BEXAR...
SULLIGENT...ALICEVILLE...FAYETTE...DOUBLE SPRINGS...JASPER...
TUSCALOOSA...BIRMINGHAM...HOOVER... ONEONTA...PELL CITY...
TALLADEGA...GADSDEN...ANNISTON...CENTRE...AND HEFLIN.
MOISTURE WILL BE ON THE INCREASE ACROSS THE AREA TODAY. A SLOW
MOVING COLD FRONT WILL GRADUALLY MOVE ACROSS THE AREA FROM WEST TO
EAST TODAY AND TONIGHT...WITH AREAS OF RAIN MOVING NORTH ALONG AND
AHEAD OF THE FRONT. RAIN WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS WILL REPEATEDLY
TRACK NORTHWARD AS THE FRONT MOVES EASTWARD...WITH SEVERAL HOURS OF
STEADY LIGHT TO MODERATE RAINFALL...AND BRIEF PERIODS OF HEAVY
RAINFALL. HEAVIER RAINFALL SHOULD AFFECT THE AREA ALONG AND WEST OF
INTERSTATE 65 THIS MORNING AND EARLY THIS AFTERNOON...THEN SHIFT TO
AREAS EAST OF INTERSTATE 65 LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EVENING
HOURS. RAINFALL TOTALS OF ONE TO TWO INCHES ARE EXPECTED...BUT
LOCALLY HEAVIER RAINFALL WILL ARE POSSIBLE.
MANY LOCATIONS IN NORTH CENTRAL ALABAMA HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED RECORD
OR NEAR RECORD RAINFALL AMOUNTS FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER...WITH
MUCH OF THE RAINFALL BEING RECORDED WITHIN THE LAST 7 TO 10 DAYS.
THE GROUND OVER MUCH OF THE WATCH AREA IS NEARLY SATURATED.
ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAIN WILL RUNOFF QUICKLY AND CAUSE CREEKS AND
STREAMS TO FILL QUICKLY...AND COULD LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING.
A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT FLOODING OF SMALL STREAMS, CREEKS AND
OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS IS POSSIBLE WITHIN THE WATCH AREA. PEOPLE IN THE
WATCH AREA SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER AND BE PREPARED FOR
IMMEDIATE ACTION SHOULD HEAVY RAINS AND FLOODING OCCUR OR A FLASH
FLOOD WARNING BE ISSUED.
