...A Good Soaking for Alabama...

Wet weather headlines our forecast for Alabama today as rain becomes
widespread this morning. The rain will continue this afternoon and tonight,
and a few thunderstorms could be involved as well. At the moment we do not
expect a significant risk of severe weather since the air will be rather
stable. The primary concern will be heavy rain falling on the saturated
Alabama soil. We are projecting rainfall amounts from 1 to 2 inches across
the northern half of the state tomorrow, with isolated amounts to 3 inches
mainly over the northwest corner. This could mean some flash flooding
problems as the rain gets heavier this afternoon.

The rain should end during the pre-dawn hours tomorrow, followed by
a clearing sky during the day along with cooler temperatures. We will be
close to freezing by daybreak Thursday, and if Birmingham reaches 32 degrees
it will be our first freeze of the season, one of the latest on record. The
rest of the week will feature dry and cool weather statewide.

WEEKEND PREVIEW: At first glance the weekend looks mostly dry with a
decent amount of sunshine both days and seasonal temperatures (highs in the
50s, lows in the 30s). Some rain will likely return by Monday of next week
in advance of the next storm system moving along in the southern branch of
the jet stream.

GLOBAL WARMING? Amarillo, Texas has measured 13.8 inches of snow so
far this November, making it their snowiest November on record. Our in
Sacramento, CA yesterday morning the low was 28 degrees, a new record low.
Yesterday's high in Denver was only 22 degrees, they were expected to drop
to near zero degrees early this morning.
