...Fine Fall Weather Continues...
A benign weather pattern will continue across Alabama through mid-week with
no rain and a slow warming trend. We will be watching storm system over the
southwest U.S. as it begins to move eastward. We expect this disturbance to
weaken as it approaches Alabama this weekend, but it should produce a few
scattered showers Friday night into Saturday. Rain should be light and
spotty, and at the moment we don't expect wet weather to be a major factor
in Saturday's Alabama-Auburn game in Tuscaloosa. For now we expect Sunday to
be a dry day.
THANKSGIVING WEEK: Peering out into the future, a cold front is forecast to
slip in here from the north on Monday, which could bring a few showers.
Then, another system moving out of the southwest U.S. shows the potential to
bring some rain around here by Wednesday or Thanksgiving Day, but once again
the latest model data weakens this system and it does not look like it will
be a major disruption to holiday travel. Of course, this is still over one
week away and this scenario could change between now and then.
There is no sign of any major intrusion of seriously cold air during the
next 10 to 15 days. While a few of the colder places have seen a light
freeze, most Alabama communities have yet to drop below 32 degrees. The
average date of the first freeze in Birmingham is November 8, so the growing
season is running a little longer than normal this year. The latest first
freeze on record here came on December 5, 1921.
ACROSS THE FRUITED PLAIN: Lots of rain over west Texas yesterday, the total
at Midland-Odessa was 1.96". Coldest spot in the "lower 48" yesterday was
Cooke City, MT with 8 degrees. Arctic Village, Alaska dropped to -12.
