OUR GOOD LUCK CONTINUES: Another very pleasant day across Alabama if you
don't mind temperatures being on the semi-cool side. Our luck with good
weather will continue most of the week with highs in the mid and upper 60s,
but nights will be cool. We see little or no chance for rain until the
weekend, although some showers could arrive Friday night. Probably our
better chance of rain will be on Saturday when there will be some scattered
showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Late information indicates that we
could be dry again on Sunday, although we're not sure about that yet.

The wind will be very light tonight and with mostly clear skies and low dew
points in the area, we expect the temperature to fall to the upper 30s
across Central Alabama especially from Birmingham eastward. The colder
valleys of east and NE Alabama could be several degrees lower.
That was the situation last night and by early this morning the temperature
had dropped to 30 at Scottsboro, Meridianville and at Russell Cave National
Monument, 31 in Owens Crossroads and 32 in DeSoto State Park. There was some
very light frost at Madison, near Huntsville, the first of the season.
Huntsville has not been below 36 so far this season. Their average date for
the first freeze is November 5 and the all-time latest came on December 5.

MORE ABOUT HUNTSVILLE: A huge contrast in the Rocket City's weather today
as compared to 15 years ago today. A powerful F4 tornado tore across the
southern part of the city during the afternoon rush hour killing 21 or 22
people and injuring 463. There is much more about this in today's Weather
Talk and also in Weather Notebook. An interesting sidelight to that major
event: James Spann and the news crew did live telecasts from the scene the
next day and during the noon newscast, James was standing out in a snow
squall. He said the wind chill must have been near zero. They also did the
5, 6 and 10 o'clock news on site.

MONDAY WRAP UP: Some very cold temperature in North Carolina this morning
with lows of 17 in Jefferson, 22 in Boone and Spruce Pine, 23 in Franklin,
24 on Newfound Gap (in Smoky Mountain National Park), and 25 in
Asheville...the lowest in the lower 48 states was 12 at Lake Yellowstone
inside Yellowstone National Park. It was 5 below in Bettles, Alaska...on
this date in 1900, 45 inches of snow fell on Watertown, New York in only 24
hours-a record storm for New York until 1976. Yep, that's one of those
legendary lake effect snow events that are almost
unbelievable...considerable flash-flooding in Central and South Texas
overnight.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly may be giving up on me since
I have had very little time to play with her for four or five days in a row.
I've got to change that. It is so much fun to play all of her games with
her. On our night walk she wanted to stay out forever because she had not
had much time with me. It sure was nice walking in the chilly air...she was
in one of those scrounging moods when she burrows her nose in those grassy
areas to see what's there. But I used the magic word "treat" and she bolted
for home. That works every time. We did cuddle a lot when we hit the sack
shortly after midnight...life goes on and on and is always interesting.
