I was out in my yard with a cup of coffee at 5:45 this morning because of a
super sunrise. Hope you saw it. Easily one of the top 10 I have ever seen
and I have seen a few. But I'm supposed to be discussing weather, so let me
reboot my brain and get back on track:

OUR UPCOMING RAIN EVENT: This has been a long painful process with a big
storm system inching its way from Texas. We get all kinds of mixed signals
on when and how much rain for Alabama. This afternoon some light showers
were moving into the western counties of the state and those will advance
eastward tonight. All the latest evidence that we can analyze points to a
chance of showers tonight and again Friday and increasing chances of showers
over the weekend. Probably our best chance during the weekend will be Sunday
and Sunday night. Our day-by-day forecast details all of that.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: A fairly important football game is being played in
Tuscaloosa Saturday afternoon. At 2:30, Auburn plays Alabama. We now believe
that there will not be as much rain as we earlier expected on Saturday. Even
so, it's going to be difficult to get through the game without needing
raingear and there may also be a thunderstorm. It should be about 70 at
kickoff and about 65 when we know the final score. For Friday night high
school playoff games, there's also a chance of showers with game time
temperatures 65-70.

FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD: We think that by Sunday morning the low pressure
area will be still to our west with a cold front near the NW corner of
Alabama. That should enhance our chance of rain on Sunday. The front may
push past Birmingham Monday and cool us off just a bit, but it should stall
near Montgomery and come back northward as a warm front. Things are pointing
toward more numerous showers and storms on Wednesday-some possibly strong,
only to have fresh and sharply cooler air move over the area Thanksgiving
Day. We would guess at this time that Thanksgiving will be dry.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly slept until almost 10 this
morning. That gave me time to soak up some coffee and get an early start on
a complicated forecast. On our long morning walk, she was in a sniffing mood
again, especially in the broad open common area near the Old Crow Motel.
That broad grassy area may be the doggy version of the New York Times. Miss
Molly has a problem with very dry, flaky skin. We just bought some dog food
that should help that, plus some moisturizing shampoo. Later today we will
give her a bath and that's going to be traumatic. Last time we gave her a
bath she came roaring upward like a minuteman missile being launched from a
silo with her ears laid back and slinging water everywhere. She landed on
the tile floor and took off like a jackrabbit and hid. We both had to change
clothes we were so soaked. Life goes on-wet or dry.
