A WET WEEKEND?: We sure have enjoyed a nice stretch of pleasant autumn weather but that will change soon. We will have another pleasant day Thursday and a good part of Friday may be dry. However some showers should reach the area later in the day and Friday night.
There are increasing indications that much of the weekend will be wet. The storm total rainfall for Saturday and Sunday across Central Alabama should be between one and two inches with some areas getting more than that.

A cold front is expected to approach the NW corner of Alabama Saturday morning and then slow down or stall for about 24 hours before moving down to about the Birmingham area Monday morning. We will still have a good chance of some showers on Monday.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: That is certainly not the best of news for football fans. It is still a bit early to pin it down to specifics. We can do that better Thursday and Friday. At this time, it appears the Friday night high school playoff games may have some scattered showers, but temperatures will be in the 60s. For the Alabama-Auburn game Saturday afternoon, temperatures should be around 70 at kickoff with occasional showers in the area and possibly a thunderstorm. UAB will be way far away playing Army. There is a chance of some light rain at West Point during the game with temperatures only near 50.

THE BIG TEXAS RAINS: It has been pouring in parts of Texas for nearly a week and showers and storms continue today. This may sound like a paradox, but there has been so much flash flooding around the town of Leaky, Texas that only one road in the entire county was open early this morning. In the wee morning hours, 73 roads were closed in and around San Antonio and 43 closed in the San Marcos area. In Uvalde County, the only road open in the entire county was US-90...warmest temperature yesterday was in Brownsville, Texas...coldest this morning in the lower 48 was 8 degrees at Houlton, Maine. It has not been as cold in Alaska for the last several days. In fact, up in the extreme north part of Canada it was 5 above this morning at Alert—a station that had been reporting 30 below temperatures for nearly a week.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I was gone all day yesterday and when I got home I decided to come in the front door instead of the garage door. There are full length glass panes by the front door and little Miss Molly often parks there to look outside. When she saw me coming, I thought she was going to scratch a hole in the glass trying to get to me and she was jumping up and down like she was on a trampoline. Had to leave again this morning to help work some at our church and when I got home it was the same thing over again. The love of a little puppy is unending...on our late night walk and again early this morning, Molly was in a sniffing mood. Someone has said that dogs need to sniff the ground. It is how they keep abreast of current events. In a sense the ground is like a doggy newspaper containing all kinds of late-breaking dog news...sure enjoyed a long trip with James Spann yesterday into West Alabama. I got to show him my boyhood home in good old Havana Junction. Life goes on.
