A BREEZY, SPARKLING DAY: A sprawling high pressure system centered over
the NE grew stronger in the last 24 hours and brisk easterly winds and drier
air got rid of most of those pesky clouds. Colder air coming down the east
side of the Appalachians and spreading west into Alabama will hold
temperatures down a little more than earlier expected for the next several
days. In fact, tonight's low averaging 38 across Central Alabama may permit
a few spots of light frost in the better protected valleys, especially over
the east and NE counties. Some places will probably have lows around 34
early Monday morning. For the rest of the week, we expect our high
temperatures to be in the mid 60s, except upper 60s around Thursday.

One of our weather models indicates an area of light rain over East
Tennessee and extreme NE Alabama late Tuesday. We are not buying that at the
moment until we can get a closer look. We think we should have little or no
risk of rain all the way through Thursday.

Sure was a nice bright day for Sunday with great visibility. If it were not
for the curvature of the earth, we probably could have seen Chattanooga or
Montgomery. Brisk NE winds were gusting to about 25 mph at times. If you had
been on some of the higher ridges around the area, such as Mt. Cheaha, your
hat would have blown off.

A FREEZE WARNING EAST OF ALABAMA: The National Weather Service in Atlanta
and Columbia have advised that temperatures may drop to freezing or lower
over North and Central Georgia and parts of South Carolina tonight. It could
be as cold as the upper 20s in the mountains of NE Georgia. That will be the
coldest since last spring.

SUNDAY NOTES: For the third time this week, Saranac Lake, New York was the
coldest spot in the lower 48 states this morning with 5 above zero.
Saturday's warmest was 84 at Ft. Myers and West Kendall down in South
Florida...how would you like to be atop Mt. Washington, New Hampshire this
afternoon where the temperature was 23 with west winds gusting to 87 mph?
that sends the wind chill to below zero...in the Texas Panhandle, Amarillo
received 4.4 inches of snow Saturday. That is the first time measurable snow
has fallen on November 13 since their weather records began way back in
1892.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly sure did look funny on our
early morning walk. NE winds pushing down the US 11 valley were gusting to
at least 25 mph and her hair was blowing around like crazy. As we headed
back home, it was a tail wind for the little girl and her tail actually blew
back over her back. Autumn leaves were blowing around like snowflakes and,
of course, little Miss Molly had to chase every one. This means that I had
to change directions and speed every few seconds, so I had to stay very
alert. This is the final sentence of today's report and as soon as I
complete it, I'm going to have a lengthy play session with Molly-something
she has missed for the last two days and she seems a bit subdued. Life goes
on.
