...Fine Fall Weather Continues...
Beautiful weather will continue across Alabama today following a new
surge of cool, dry air that arrived yesterday. Afternoon temperatures will
be about five degrees cooler today, with the mercury rising into the mid 60s
in most places.
CHANGES AHEAD: To the west, we continue to watch an upper low over
the four corners region. This system will continue to move in our direction,
and we expect to see an increase in clouds by Thursday, and the possibility
of showers as early as Thursday afternoon. We will forecast a good chance of
rain at times and possibly a thunderstorm Thursday night as a sharp cold
front passes through the state. We don't expect any severe weather since the
air will be relatively stable and the best dynamic support will be north of
Alabama Thursday night.
Friday should be a rather blustery day, with lingering clouds, a
chilly north breeze, and temperatures struggling to reach the mid 50s. Any
leftover rain should end early in the day.
WEEKEND PEEK: We are projecting low temperatures in the 30 to 35
degree range across most of north and central Alabama early Saturday. This,
of course, means the colder spots could see a light freeze, with widespread
frost likely.
For Saturday and Sunday we expect ample sunshine with cool
temperatures. Despite total sunshine, we should remain below 60 all day on
Saturday.
Another system should affect Alabama in about a week, with rain
likely by Monday night and Tuesday (November 15-16).
ALASKA CHILL: Bitterly cold air covers much of Alaska. Arctic
Village dropped to -35 yesterday morning, while the high yesterday afternoon
in Fairbanks was zero.
