...Nice Through Midweek...

GOOD MORNING! We received several reports of unusual lights in the sky
across North Alabama last evening. Since solar activity is at a high level
at this time, it is likely that it was a rare display of the Northern
Lights.

ON THE WEATHER MAPS: This morning, our cold front has pushed through much
of the state and is over South Alabama. This cold front has already shifted
our winds to the north. Those northerly winds will be a but breezy today.
Slightly drier air will filter in throughout the day, and by this evening ,
dew points will be in the 30s. Temperatures overnight tonight will fall
into the lower 40s across most of the area under clear skies. A few of the
normally colder locations will register readings in the upper 30s.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Strong high pressure over the upper Midwest is behind our
subtle but sharp cold front. By Tuesday, that high will sink southeastward
to the Ohio Valley. It will be in firm control of Alabama's weather through
midweek.

A cutoff low pressure system (cut off from the main upper level flow) will
be moving into California and the Southwest over the next couple of days.

It will weaken into a trough and generate a surface low pressure system over
eastern Colorado. By Thursday, double barrel low pressure will be over
northeastern Texas and over Illinois. Showers will be spreading into
Alabama during the day on Thursday. They will overspread the state Thursday
night. As the low moves off to the northeast, it will propel a cold front
through the state. But the timing of that front and the departure of the
precipitation associated with the front is up in the air at this time. For
now, we will call for cloudy skies, a raw north wind and a chance of light
rain on Friday. The raon should all be gone by Saturday. Temperatures will
be much cooler behind this system, but probably not a freeze, at least a
widespread one.

RECORD RAINLESS STREAK: It finally rained on this date in 1914 in Bagdad,
California, breaking an incredible rain-free streak of 767 days, the U.S.
record!
