...Happy Halloween!...

THANKS! Many thanks to everyone for a great day at the Storm Alert Xtreme
show at the BJCC on Saturday. We really appreciate the great turnout of
weather fans. You guys made it all worthwhile! A special thanks to Mary
Buckelew of the Jefferson County Commission, who sponsored the event and
Jason Wright of the NWS who underscored the importance of spotters. Huge
thanks to ABC3340 News Director Gary Kelly for sanctioning the show. We
couldn't have done it without the expert assistance of Bill Castle, Ron
Thomas, Bill Hudson and Roy Roberson of 3340. Brian Peters did a superb
job with the spotter training. A fun day was had by all. Especially me!

YOU'RE EARLY! If you forgot to set you clock back last night, you're an
hour early! I have to admit, I do not like the early sunsets. The sun
will set at 4:57 tonight. Yuck!

THE FORECAST: The main feature in Alabama weather over the next five days
will be an upper level trough that is expected to swing out of the Southwest
and head toward Alabama. This will allow surface low pressure to develop
west of the state Sunday night. This low will track to the northeast,
driving a front toward us. Ahead of the front, a warm, moist airmass will
cover the Southeast. A weak front just to our north will retreat as a warm
front ahead of the developing low later today. We could see a few showers
and maybe even a couple of thunderstorms today and overnight tonight as the
airmass becomes slightly unstable. Skies will also be mostly cloudy. With
the big front still to the west, and the warm front out of the picture,
Monday could be a partly cloudy, warm and rather pleasant fall day. But
changes will be in the offing as the front approaches Monday night. Winds
will increase out of the Southwest. Showers will begin to form Monday night
and a strong band of thunderstorms will approach Alabama by Tuesday morning.

This line of storms will cross the state on Election Day. There is a chance
that the storms could be severe on Tuesday, and that is a situation we will
be monitoring closely.
