...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOBILE ALABAMA HAS CONTINUED A
FLOOD WATCH UNTIL 900 PM CDT SUNDAY EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING
COUNTIES...
IN SOUTHWEST ALABAMA...WASHINGTON...CHOCTAW...BALDWIN AND MOBILE
COUNTIES.
IN SOUTHEAST MISSISSIPPI...GEORGE...STONE...PERRY...GREENE AND WAYNE
COUNTIES.
.SYNOPSIS...TROPICAL STORM MATTHEW IS FORECASTED TO WEAKEN BUT MOVE
INLAND NEAR GULFPORT ON SUNDAY...AS A RESULT A LARGE AREA OF
RAIN WELL EAST AND NORTH OF THE APPROACHING STORM WILL CONTINUE TO
SPREAD OVER THE AREA THROUGH SUNDAY.
IN TOTAL...THIS EVENT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO GENERATE RAINFALL AMOUNTS
BETWEEN 3 AND 5 INCHES ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST MISSISSIPPI AND
MAINLY THE WESTERN PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST ALABAMA. HEAVY RAINS COULD
POSSIBLY MOVE INTO THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE AND ADJACENT ALABAMA
COUNTIES LATER TONIGHT OR EARLY SUNDAY...AND A FLOOD WATCH MAY BE
REQUIRED FOR THOSE AREAS LATER TODAY. THE DURATION OF THIS EVENT HAS
THE POTENTIAL TO BE QUITE PROLONGED...DEPENDING ON THE TRACK AND
SPEED OF TROPICAL STORM MATTHEW OR IT'S REMNANTS.
REMEMBER...A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT FLOODING OF STREAMS...CREEKS AND
OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS IS POSSIBLE WITHIN THE WATCH AREA. PEOPLE IN THE
WATCH AREA SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER AND BE PREPARED TO SEEK
HIGHER GROUND SHOULD HEAVY RAINS AND FLOODING OCCUR OR A WARNING IS
ISSUED.
SINCE MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR FROM DRIVING INTO FLOOD WATERS AND WHEN
CHILDREN PLAY IN AND AROUND RISING WATERS...REMEMBER TO TURN AROUND
AND DON'T DROWN.

PM CDT THIS AFTERNOON.
