...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WATCH UNTIL 900 PM
CDT SUNDAY EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...

.SYNOPSIS...AS A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM DEVELOPS OVER THE WESTERN GULF
OF MEXICO AND MOVES TO THE NORTHEAST TODAY AND TONIGHT...HEAVY RAIN
WILL SPREAD OVER INLAND SOUTHEASTERN MISSISSIPPI AND SOUTHWESTERN
ALABAMA THIS EVENING.

IN SOUTHWEST ALABAMA...WASHINGTON...CHOCTAW...BALDWIN AND MOBILE
COUNTIES.

IN SOUTHEAST MISSISSIPPI...GEORGE...STONE...PERRY...GREENE AND WAYNE
COUNTIES.

IN TOTAL...THIS RAINFALL EVENT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO GENERATE EVENT
TOTAL RAINFALL BETWEEN 3 AND 5 INCHES ACROSS PORTIONS OF OUR REGION.
ALSO...THE DURATION OF THIS EVENT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE QUITE
PROLONGED...DEPENDING ON THE EXACT TRACK AND SPEED OF THE SURFACE LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM.

ONCE THE RAINFALL BEGINS OVER OUR REGION THIS EVENING...BE PREPARED
FOR THE POSSIBILITY THAT INLAND SOUTHEASTERN MISSISSIPPI AND PORTIONS
OF SOUTHWESTERN ALABAMA MAY NOT SEE AN END TO THE RAIN UNTIL MIDDAY
SUNDAY. AGAIN...WHILE 3 TO 5 INCHES OF EVENT TOTAL RAINFALL WILL BE
COMMON...ISOLATED AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 7 INCHES MAY OCCUR WERE
THUNDERSTORMS MOVE REPEATEDLY OVER THE SAME COUNTY...OR GROUP OF
COUNTIES.

IF THE SURFACE LOW PASSES TO THE WEST OF THE WATCH AREA...THE EVENT
HEAVY RAINFALL MAY BE AS HIGH AS 36 TO 48 HOURS. IF THE SURFACE LOW
PASSES CLOSER TO OR JUST OVER THE WATCH AREA...RAINFALL DURATION WILL
BE MORE LIMITED OVER THE AFOREMENTIONED AREAS BUT THE FLOOD WATCH MAY
NEED TO BE EXTENDED FARTHER EAST TO INCLUDE THE EXTREME WESTERN
FLORIDA PANHANDLE AND EASTERN PORTIONS OF SOUTHWESTERN ALABAMA. STAY
TUNED AS THIS SITUATION EVOLVES.

THIS WILL CERTAINLY BE THE MOST PROLONGED RAIN EVENT SINCE SEPTEMBER
16TH...WHICH IS WHEN HUIRRICANE IVAN MADE LANDFALL IN OUR AREA. FOR
THOSE OF YOU THAT EXPERIENCED ROOF DAMAGE TO YOUR HOUSES
...PREPARATIONS SHOULD BE NEARING AND END.

A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT FLOODING OF STREAMS...CREEKS AND OTHER
DRAINAGE AREAS IS POSSIBLE WITHIN THE WATCH AREA. PEOPLE IN THE WATCH
AREA SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER AND BE PREPARED TO SEEK HIGHER
GROUND SHOULD HEAVY RAINS AND FLOODING OCCUR OR A WARNING IS ISSUED.

REMEMBER...MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR FROM DRIVING INTO FLOOD WATERS AND
WHEN CHILDREN PLAY IN AND AROUND RISING WATERS.

THE NEXT SCHEDULED FLOOD STATEMENT STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED BY 600 PM
CDT THIS EVENING.
