MILD WEATHER CONTINUES: It is more like late May or even early June across
the Alabama landscape and we don't see any significant change to colder
temperatures although it will turn cooler early next week. Trying to
determine if it will rain and how many showers is rather difficult, but we
can't rule out a shower or a thunderstorm any day through the weekend.
Scattered showers and storms are expected Thursday with a lesser chance on
Friday. Probably our best chance will be late Saturday, Saturday night and
extending into Sunday. On Sunday, the better chance may be north of
Birmingham. See our day-by-day forecast. Latest indications are that
election day will be dry.

TONIGHT'S TOTAL ECLIPSE: While there may be some cloudiness this evening,
we think there will be a good chance to see the total lunar eclipse later
tonight. It begins at 8:14 CDT and reaches total at 9:23. The total eclipse
will end at 10:45 and the entire show will be over at 11:54. So, we will
have one hour and 22 minutes of total eclipse. The next one won't be until
2007.

OTHER EVENTS: Jason Wright, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the
NWS, reminds us that today was Severe Weather Awareness Day. We are rapidly
approaching our "secondary" severe weather season which is in November and
well into December. For the last several years, it has been our main
season...don't forget the one-hour special Thursday night on ABC 33/40
emphasizing some of Alabama's worst tornadoes and Storm Alert Xtreme at the
Civic Center in downtown Birmingham Saturday between 9:30 and 3:30.

ROAMING FAR AND WIDE: That is a major storm affecting the Western USA.
Heavy snow already covers the Wasatch Mountains of Northern Utah with 28
inches of snow already on the ground at Farmington between Salt Lake and
Ogden. An additional 1 to 2 feet will fall in the next 24 hours and in some
areas as much as 3 more feet. The NWS in Salt Lake warns that this is a
major winter storm and will be accompanied by strong winds...already 2 feet
of new snow on the ground at Big Bear Lake east of San Diego and 14 to 20
inches of snow expected in the Southern Nevada mountains...USA cold spots
this morning: 14 at Lake Tahoe and zero at Arctic Village, Alaska.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: He was a beautiful solid white little dog only
slightly larger than little Miss Molly. He was new to our community and
lived on the other side of the thick hedgerow north of our walking track. He
was full of energy just like Molly. She got to rub noses with him one time
and it looked like love at first sight.but most of the time she could see
him through the thick hedgerow running rapidly across two big backyards.
Molly would frantically try to find an opening in the hedgerow to go play
with him. He was run over by a car a couple of days ago and hasn't been
seen since. On our walk early this morning, Molly again poked her head as
deep into the hedgerow as possible to try to get a glimpse of him. It is a
sad story, but life goes on. I believe dogs and other animals have very warm
emotional feelings just like us. Molly will occasionally plop down
overlooking the back yard where the big 90 pound Black Lab, Grady, used to
live lived waiting to see him. Only thing, he moved away almost a year ago.
