...Beautiful Weekend...

GOOD MORNING! It is another refreshing morning across the area. For the second morning in a row, temperatures have bottomed out in the 40s in most locations. Most locations will stay out of the 40s for the next few days. Highs today will manage 70 in most locations under partly cloudy skies. A weak frontal system over the northern section of the state brought a few clouds along with it early this morning, and those clouds will keep us partly cloudy to occasionally partly sunny today and tomorrow. The Alabama and Auburn games should both feature decent weather with comfortable temperatures in the upper 60s and a mix of clouds and sun.

The front will barely be noticed pushing back north on Sunday as a decent southerly low level flow returns. Sunday looks like a nice day, although there are some signs that a shower or two might develop. We will keep them out of the forecast for now, and expect nice afternoon temperatures in the middle to upper
70s, just about normal for this time of year.

THE WEEK AHEAD: By Monday, that southerly flow will be in business across the state. Showers will begin to develop on Monday, but will be more likely on Tuesday as a front approaches from the north. But a strong subtropical high off the Atlantic coast will flex its muscles and push the front back to the north by Wednesday. But, those shower chances will remain with us through much of the coming week. Another front will approach Alabama by the weekend, likely stalling across North Alabama as a low develops to the west. This could spell a wet weekend.

ON THIS DATE IN 1975: The first GOES satellite was launched. GOES, short for the Geostationary Operational Satellite Program, is a series of satellites first launched by NASA and later transferred to the National Weather Service. The satellites remain in a stationary orbit some 22,300 miles above the same location on the Earth giving meteorologists a constant view of the same regions of the Earth so that they can monitor the formation, location and movement of cloud systems.
