...More Showers Ahead...

GOOD MORNING! How 'bout those Braves? It was almost too much for my heart
to stand. A pivotal fourth game, down 5-2 to the powerful Houston Astros.
But they pulled it out to force a final Game 5 in Atlanta this afternoon.
MATTHEW'S RAINS: Well, the rain finally arrived in Birmingham during the
afternoon hours. The disorganized storm weakened quickly after landfall
near Houma, Louisiana and the system began to unravel, its rain shield
diminishing in intensity. Rainfall amounts have been light, averaging less
than a quarter of an inch over most areas. The heavier rainfall fell over
Southwest Alabama, where amounts averaged an inch, with some two inch
amounts.

INTO MIDWEEK: Alabama will remain in a relatively moist and unsettled
airmass into midweek, thanks to Matthew. Occasional disturbances will
interact with this soupy atmosphere to produce periodic showers. Skies will
remain mostly cloudy for the next few days, but hopefully there will be some
periods of sunshine mixed in with the clouds.

CHANGES AHEAD: We have been advertising a change to cooler for late in the
week, and that looks to be on track. Cold air will be massing in Canada
early in the week and should be transported south by a deep trough starting
around midweek. This cooler air will surge southward behind a strong cold
front. This front should arrive in Alabama on Thursday, heralded by some
showers and thunderstorms.

Readings behind the front will be in the 40s by Friday morning, with a
repeat performance on Saturday morning. Southerly winds will return quickly
on Saturday, allowing for a quick warm up. Daytime temperatures by Sunday
will be back in the upper 70s.

ON THIS DATE IN 1991: Most people think of Seattle as being consistently
cold and rainy, but you may be amazed to know that more rain falls each year
in places like New York and Chicago. On this date, Seattle was recording
its' 40th straight day without measurable rainfall.
