...Warm October Weather...

If the sun returns statewide as we expect today, temperatures will
approach 80 degrees in most communities this afternoon, well above the
normal high of 73 degrees for October 21. Warmer air aloft will keep most of
the state dry, but with ample low level moisture we cannot completely
eliminate the risk of a few isolated showers this afternoon.

The situation will remain basically the same tomorrow, with warm and
mostly dry weather in our forecast package.

THE WEEKEND: A strong storm system will move from the Rockies into
southern Canada over the weekend, and will drag a cold front into Alabama.
For north and central counties of the state, it looks like the best chance
of showers will come from late Saturday afternoon into Saturday night and
very early Sunday morning. By Sunday afternoon most of the showers will be
down in south Alabama. A few thunderstorms could be involved, but we don't
expect any severe weather with the best dynamics passing well to the north
of us. Rainfall amounts should be in the one-half inch range for most
places.

RAIN UPDATE: Birmingham has received 45.87" of rain since January 1,
which is about two inches above normal. Keep in mind about ten inches of
that came when Ivan blew through here on September 16.

IVAN DVD: Our DVD called "Face to Face With Hurricane Ivan" is
selling fast. It costs 10 dollars and is available at Compass Bank branches
across Alabama. All of the money goes to the American Red Cross and the
hurricane relief efforts in south Alabama. You might call your Compass Bank
branch in advance since some of them have already sold out of the DVDs.
