...Nice Sunday Ahead...
GOOD MORNING! I love fall! There is a little touch of it in the air this
morning behind the cold front that pushed through yesterday. Everything
seems a little more vivid and a little crisper. All seems right with the
world. My Braves are in the playoffs for the thirteenth straight year, and
I love playoff baseball, especially afternoon games. There is a lot to love
about fall...
THE ALABAMA WEATHER STORY: At least one of those afternoon thunderstorms
did become briefly severe Saturday afternoon as it moved out of Mississippi
into western Alabama. J.B. reports that some trees were uprooted west of
Millport in Lamar County and there was an injury reported in Lowndes County,
Mississippi when a fence was blown through a window. Many thanks to J.B.
for updates while my son Will and I went to the football game. Drier and
stable air is flowing into Alabama in the wake of the cold front, and
temperatures today will stay below 80 degrees at most locations. Skies will
become clear as we move through the day. Any showers that do occur will be
limited to southeastern sections of the state. Readings tonight will drop
well into the 50s in most areas, with a few locations dipping into the upper
40s possibly.
HEADING INTO THE NEW WEEK: Most of the upcoming week will feature a good
deal of sunshine. Upper level disturbances could spread a few clouds across
the area from time to time, and a cold front will arrive Monday night, but
conditions should remain dry due to limited moisture. The cold front will
deliver a reinforcing supply of dry and slightly cooler air, but in reality,
temperatures will not deviate much from seasonal norms in the coming week.
There is a disturbance moving across parts of Central America and the
Yucatan Peninsula. This feature will spread moisture over the Bay of
Campeche. While tropical development is not expected in the near term, the
GFS continues to hint that something might happen in the southwestern Gulf
by early this week. The Saturday afternoon run indicated a huge rain area
moving up into Alabama by next Sunday. If this system materializes, we
could see heavy rains.
