NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HUNTSVILLE AL
925 PM CDT THU SEP 16 2004

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HUNTSVILLE HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
MADISON COUNTY IN NORTH CENTRAL ALABAMA

* UNTIL 130 AM CDT

* AT 925 PM CDT...WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATED VERY HEAVY RAINFALL
WAS STILL OCCURRING OVER MADISON COUNTY...EVEN THOUGH RADAR
RETURNS HAD DIMINISHED SOMEWHAT. THERE HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANT RISES
ON CREEKS AND STREAMS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY.

INDIAN CREEK AT MADISON IS APPROACHING BANKFULL...AND THERE HAVE
BEEN SIGNIFICANT RISES ON OTHER CREEKS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY.
HOWEVER...AT THIS TIME THE CREEKS ARE POSING NO FLOODING PROBLEMS.

RAINFALL TOTALS OF THREE TO FIVE INCHES HAVE ALREADY OCCURRED. AN
ADDITIONAL ONE TO TWO INCHES IS POSSIBLE DURING THE WARNING
PERIOD...POSSIBLY MORE IF PRECIPITATION WRAPS AROUND BEHIND THE
CENTER OF IVAN LATER TONIGHT.

* SOME LOCATIONS AFFECTED INCLUDE...
GURLEY...HARVEST...HAZEL GREEN...HUNTSVILLE...MADISON...
MERIDIANVILLE...MOORES MILL...NEW HOPE...NEW MARKET...OWENS
CROSSROADS...REDSTONE ARSENAL AND TRIANA

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED...
ACT QUICKLY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE RISING WATERS!

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. AS LITTLE AS SIX INCHES OF WATER MAY CAUSE YOU TO LOSE
CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE. TWO FEET OF MOVING WATER CAN FLOAT MOST
VEHICLES...INCLUDING S U V'S AND PICKUP TRUCKS. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN
RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED.
