                            ...Jeanne Inland...

GOOD MORNING!  Hurricane Jeanne moved inland on the East Coast of Florida early this morning as a Category 3 hurricane.  Jeanne is expected to move northwest and then north across the Florida Peninsula today, weakening into a tropical depression and passing into southern Georgia early on Monday morning.  By Tuesday afternoon, Jeanne will be accelerating northeastward and be over the Chesapeake Bay area.
ALABAMA EFFECTS:  The predicted track of Hurricane Jeanne keeps the weakening storm at least 100 miles east of the Alabama/Georgia border.  Since Alabama will be on the western side of the storm’s circulation, our effects should be minimal.   Winds will increase over southeastern sections of the state on Sunday, reaching 25-35 mph with higher gusts.  Further north, over East Central Alabama, winds will average 10-20 mph as far north as Auburn.  Across the rest of Central Alabama, in the Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Talladega and Anniston areas, winds will run 10-15 mph Sunday through Monday.  So it will be a little breezy, but no significant winds are expected north of the Dothan area.  An Inland Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Tallahassee area and inland counties of the Florida Peninsula and southern Georgia.  The Dothan area has about a 20% chance of showers and storms Sunday, with light showers spreading northward along the Alabama/Georgia border counties Sunday night and Monday.  Here in middle Alabama, we should remain dry.

HEADING INTO THE NEW WEEK:  A washed up stationary front lies over Northwest Alabama this morning.  It should fade away on Monday.  Jeanne will be well to our northeast by Tuesday.  A cold front will approach from the north in Jeanne’s wake, spreading cool, dry, fall-like air across the state for midweek.  Tuesday should be sunny, Wednesday partly cloudy. Now,  there is a potential fly in the ointment as an upside down  trough of low pressure approaches us from the southeast around the periphery of the subtropical high.  This system could spread some showers into the state on Thursday.   We will have to wait and see.
