DRY WEATHER CONTINUES: One weather model tries to crank in a slight chance
of showers for Central Alabama by Monday. We don't think it will happen, so
we're leaving our forecast dry all the way through the first part of next
week. Hard to beat these temperatures. Lows at night have been in the 50s
and 60s, but the afternoons will warm up a bit over the next few days. The
weather looks great for high school football games Friday night. We will
have a complete football forecast tomorrow, which will also include the
college games.

TROPICAL WEATHER: Born again Tropical Storm Ivan was approaching the coast
near the Louisiana-Texas border this afternoon with sustained winds of 60
mph. He will move ashore later today. One of the most worrisome things will
be 5 to 10 inches of rain expected to occur near the center along with a few
spin-off tornadoes. The NHC tracking chart suggests that Ivan, after
crossing the coast, will curve toward the west and eventually back to the SW
and by Sunday morning should be over South-Central Texas. The slow movement
could bring some flood problems. Meanwhile, Hurricane Jeanne with sustained
winds of 105, will move toward the west and then the NW and north. By Sunday
morning she could make landfall on the lower east coast of Florida near
where Frances moved ashore. Then she may move northward right along the
Florida east coast to landfall in South Carolina on Monday. This is all very
tentative this far ahead. Hurricane Karl is way out and will stay that way
as he passes south or SE of Iceland during the day Sunday.

WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA: I have a cousin who lives at Sylva in Western North
Carolina. She has been doing a good job of keeping me posted with
photographs and information about the serious flooding in that area. In an
e-mail today, she said a lot of major roads are still out-just washed away.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is closed and a big chunk of it is gone. That area
got a double whammy from Frances and Ivan.

THURSDAY THOUGHTS: What a difference a week makes...a week ago this
afternoon, flooding rains and damaging winds as Ivan tracked across Central
Alabama with the center passing just east of Birmingham...you can count me
as a big admirer of all the utility employees on the firing line as they
strive to restore power and phone service...USA temperature extremes
included 97 yesterday in Laredo, Texas and 18 this morning in Doyleville,
Colorado.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Never did I dream that when Little Miss Molly
walked into our living area 22 months ago, that she would quickly charm me
so much that my entire life has changed. Her tail was swishing rapidly and
she greeted us as if she had been here forever. She is still that way
today...so happy to see us even if we leave for a short time...I can walk a
short distance to the mail box and she is immediately waiting for me at the
front door when I get back. I can see the little bushy head watching my
every step...every time I take a 15 minute power nap, either in the recliner
or on the king-size bed, she curls up next to me to take her "power nap"
also...sure makes me glad that she likes me...makes life more enjoyable and
life goes on...she is waiting to play soccer with me now.
