...Frances To Impact Alabama...

FRANCES: Frances moved over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico overnight,
heading northwest toward the Apalachicola area of Northwest Florida. The
expected track of the storm carries it up the Alabama/Georgia border over
the next forty eight hours before it starts to curve to the northeast.
Frances will have a significant impact on Alabama weather as it moves
northward. Breaking it down:

WIND: Frances is a very large system. Strong winds have buffeted
southeastern sections with the initial feed bands. An Inland Tropical Storm
Warning is in effect for the Southeast corner of Alabama where winds will
reach 40 mph or higher with gusts to 60 mph.

A High Wind Watch will go into effect at noon in an area roughly from Phenix
City to Auburn to Tuskegee to Troy and Eufaula. Sustained winds may reach
40 mph and gust to 50 mph.

Further north, a Wind Advisory is in effect further out from this area to
locations roughly from Piedmont to Talladega to Sylacauga to Clanton to
Selma, extending southeastward. Sustained winds 25-35 with gust to 40 mph
can be expected.

A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for this afternoon through Tuesday for
20-30 mph winds with higher gusts for the area roughly from Centre to
Gadsden to Warrior to Minor to Brent and Marion, then on to the southeast.

RAIN: Clouds will overspread the area today. Showers will start to affect
the area this afternoon, lasting through Wednesday morning. Those showers
should be light to moderate in our area, with heavier rains limited to East
Central and Southeast Alabama. Any flooding rains should be limited to the
extreme eastern counties and over into Georgia. Total amounts will range
from .10 over western sections to .75 near I-65 to 2-4 inches over East
Central sections.

SEVERE WEATHER: Tornadoes are possible over southeastern Alabama on Monday
and could spread through East Central counties on Tuesday.
