BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
FLOOD WATCH
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOBILE AL
140 AM CDT THU AUG 12 2004

...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOBILE HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WATCH
FOR FLASH FLOODING FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES UNTIL 1100 AM CDT
THIS MORNING...

IN SOUTHWEST ALABAMA...ESCAMBIA...COVINGTON...CONECUH...BUTLER...
CRENSHAW...BALDWIN AND MOBILE COUNTIES.

IN NORTHWEST FLORIDA...OKALOOSA...ESCAMBIA AND SANTA ROSA COUNTIES.

BANDS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE
DEVELOPING OVER THE WATCH AREA AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING COLD FRONT.
THIS COUPLED WITH A MODERATE TO STRONG ONSHORE FLOW FROM TROPICAL
STORM BONNIE PASSING JUST SOUTH OF THE AREA WILL RESULT IN THE
TRAINING OF STORMS ACROSS THE WATCH AREA THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS.
WITH GROUNDS ALREADY SATURATED FROM PREVIOUS RAINS THE LAST COUPLE OF
DAYS...AND MANY CREEKS AND STREAMS ARE NEAR BANKFULL. ADDITIONAL
RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 3 INCHES WILL RUNOFF QUICKLY AND
INCREASE THE THREAT OF FLASH FLOODING ACROSS THE WATCH AREA.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT FLOODING OF SMALL STREAMS...CREEKS AND
OTHER LOW LYING FLOOD PRONE AREAS...ESPECIALLY ALONG POOR DRAINAGE
ROADWAYS...STREETS AND UNDERPASSES ARE POSSIBLE. PEOPLE IN THE WATCH
AREA SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE
IMMEDIATE ACTION SHOULD HEAVY RAINS AND FLOODING OCCUR OR A FLASH
FLOOD WARNING IS ISSUED.

REMEMBER...MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES ATTEMPTING TO
CROSS FLOODED AREAS. RAPIDLY RISING WATER CAN EASILY CARRY A VEHICLE
AND ITS OCCUPANTS DOWN STREAM.

THE FLASH FLOOD THREAT WILL DIMINISH BY THIS AFTERNOON AS TROPICAL
STORM BONNIE PUSHES INLAND WELL EAST OF DESTIN SOMETIME BY MID TO
LATE MORNING...AND THE COLD FRONT PUSHES OFFSHORE LATER THIS
AFTERNOON.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND OTHER LOCAL MEDIA FOR CONTINUED
UPDATES ON THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WEATHER SITUATION.
