...Weather Changes Ahead...

Today should be another hot and dry day for Alabama, with most locations
reaching the low 90s this afternoon. For some places, this will be the first
day at or over 90 degrees since August 5 (see today's Weather Talk article).
But, changes are on the way.

A deep layer of moisture moves in tomorrow, and with an approaching cold
front we will forecast scattered to numerous showers and storms. The
unsettled weather will continue into Saturday, and some spots could see one
to two inches of rain during those two days.

We will mention the chance of a stray shower on Sunday morning, but drier
air should arrive by Sunday afternoon as the showers push down into the
southern half of the state.

NEXT WEEK: We will maintain a dry forecast on Monday, and then typical
summer conditions are likely for the middle of the week with the chance of
scattered, mainly afternoon showers or storms. No record lows following the
weekend cold front this time; temperatures should be near normal levels for
much of next week.

AIR QUALITY: Another code orange air quality alert for Jefferson and Shelby
counties today; the primary pollutant is expected to be ground level ozone.
Air quality should improve greatly tomorrow and over the weekend thanks to
clouds and showers.

TROPICS: Tropical storm Daniel is falling apart in the northern Atlantic,
elsewhere the tropics are very quiet and no additional tropical storms are
expected through tomorrow.

HEATING UP: Muscle Shoals was the hottest place in Alabama yesterday with 93
degrees. Our weathernet site at Legion Field had 91, but the Birmingham
Airport reported a high of 88.
