...All Eyes On the Tropics...

GOOD MORNING! We have a lot to talk about this morning, so we will get started right away. You can check the latest information from our tropical systems on the ABC3340 Website’s 7 Day Planner and in today’s Weather Talk.

BONNIE: I worried yesterday that Bonnie might not survive its trip across the Gulf. Bonnie is still out there, but not very impressive. Tropical Storm Bonnie is about 250 miles south of New Orleans this morning. The storm has made its expected northeastward turn and should begin increasing its forward speed. Bonnie should be about 125 miles south of Pensacola just after midnight tonight. Bonnie is expected to make landfall somewhere between Destin and Apalachicola during the pre-dawn hours on Thursday.

Just how strong will it be? If the storm becomes a little better organized today in a light shear, warm water temperature environment, it could make landfall as a minimal hurricane. But the good news is, the storm is extremely small. It will then speed northeastward across Georgia and the Carolina, pushing off the Virginia coast Friday.

CHARLEY: Our second tropical storm is about 175 miles southeast of Jamaica this morning. Charley is a much more impressive specimen than Bonnie, and will probably become a hurricane soon. By Thursday night, the storm will be over western Cuba, and will be moving northward. Our best prediction is that it will move over eastern Gulf and make landfall just north of Tampa Friday night.

WHAT ABOUT OUR WEATHER? A cold front will edge down into Alabama today. Scattered showers and storms will occur ahead of the front today and tonight. The heavier rains of Bonnie will be well to the southeast. As Bonnie passes to the southeast on Thursday the front will move through, setting the stage for a very nice weekend.
