A BREAK FROM TOO MUCH RAIN: Drier air was ever so slowly moving southward
across north Alabama this afternoon. It will not arrive early enough to keep
a few showers from forming over the eastern counties.
However, skies will gradually clear tonight over the north and central
sections. By daybreak, you may experience some temperatures in the mid 60s
when you go out to walk your cat or grab the morning paper. Wednesday will
have mostly sunshine and lower humidity. During all of this time, rich deep
moisture will not be that far away. It will stay parked along the Gulf Coast
just itching for a chance to come back north and shroud us in high humidity
and showers and thunderstorms. We think you will notice an increase in
humidity later Thursday. Some scattered showers and thunderstorms will
arrive Friday and become more numerous on Saturday. Would not be surprised
if we have to deal with some more locally heavy rain at some point over the
weekend. Here are selected rainfall amounts for the last 24 hours. (We
can't possibly list them all)
2.17 inches in Alexander City
1.43 in Anniston
2.77 in Haleyville
2.77 at Jordan Dam
1.28 in Tuscaloosa
1.61 at Birmingham Airport
2.10 in Livingston
2.80 in Wedowee
3.43 at Union Grove
4.76 in Weaver (two-day total)
TROPICAL WEATHER: A cloudy area with scattered thunderstorms over the
western Bahamas was connected with a westward moving tropical wave.
Conditions are not favorable for additional development.
WRAP UP: The Birmingham metro area was under a code yellow-moderate air
quality again today...121 in Death Valley was the USA hot spot
Monday...chilliest this morning was 34 at Doylesville, Colorado, but more
unusual was the 46-degree low at Peshtigo, Wisconsin and Grand Meadow,
Minnesota.
MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I'm feeling sorry again for my little 9-pound
pal. Late yesterday we had a lot more window-shaking thunder and very
dangerous lightning. Little Miss Molly gets quiet at times like that and
will not let me out of her sight. If I am working (which I am always doing
during warnings) she hides under my desk and cuddles as close to my feet as
possible. She prefers to get on my desk and curl up against my keyboard. We
try to hold and comfort her as much as possible...she had impossible
sleeping hours last night and was loudly ringing the little bell to go
outside at midnight. After we got back she piled a bunch of toys in the
middle of the floor and stood over them wagging her tail. It was a clear
message that I had not played with her enough...so we had a 30-minute
playtime. Thought sure she would sleep late but at 5:15 she was standing
over me poking my arm with her paw...so it was up and walking again. Life is
so interesting with that little one but I would not want it any other
way...I have just gotta write a book about that little girl...hope I can get
all my marbles in the same ring and get started on that before too long.
Life goes on.
