...Wet Start to the Week...
GOOD MORNING! Greetings from Baltimore, Maryland. Polished off a dozen of
the most beautiful steamed crabs that you have ever seen in one of the
countless seafood restaurants here last night. Caked in that wonderful Old
Bay seasoning, you just can't beat 'em. Kind of like one of those Alabama
summertime thunderstorms...
SPEAKING OF WHICH: Boy, it was a stormy Sunday across Alabama. There were
many reports of hail to nickel size and winds of up to 60 mph. The ABC3340
Weather Watcher at Weaver in Calhoun County reported 3.87 inches of rain.
Dave Jones in Bibbville in Bibb County reported four inches of rain in his
rain gauge. Radar estimates were as high as three to four inches over the
Marion/Winston County line.
THE WEEK AHEAD: All of the convective activity again today is going to be
courtesy of an approaching upper trough and accompanying cold front that
will sweep through the area late tonight into Tuesday morning. You've
certainly been reading about those record lows over the upper Midwest and
Plains states the last couple of days. The unseasonably cool high pressure
responsible for the records will bulge down into Alabama for the midweek
time frame, giving us drier and slightly less humid conditions for Wednesday
and Thursday. Notice I didn't say cooler, or much cooler, but we will see
some overnight lows in the 60s. Look for near seasonable levels for the
remainder of the week. Moisture levels will begin to increase by Friday as
a southeasterly flow redevelops over Alabama.
EPILOGUE: HURRICANE DANNY: Hurricane Danny dissipated on this date in
1997. No other named tropical cyclone would be present in the Atlantic for
the next thirty eight days, lasting throughout August. 1961 was the only
other year since aircraft reconnaissance flights began in the 1940s to have
no Atlantic tropical storms in the month of August.
