...The Triple Hs...

GOOD MORNING! Time for my favorite summertime alliterative phrase: hot, hazy and humid. That best summarizes our weather on this Saturday. A cool front is knocking on the door over North Alabama, but it will probably have a hard time making it very far south. Still, it will spark the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms today across the area. The fly in the ointment in this forecast will be a surface trough or low pressure system that will develop to the south and southeast of Alabama over the next couple of days. The proximity of the subtle front to our north and the low pressure system may enhance our shower and storm chances

REST OF THE WEEKEND: Skies will become fair again overnight, with a little patchy fog in the morning. Skies will become partly cloudy again by lunchtime, with scattered thunderstorms developing again during the afternoon. Thunderstorm coverage tomorrow may be just a tad more widespread than today. Temperatures through the weekend will remain just slightly above normal.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Showers and storms will continue to be scattered across the area early in the week, but become more isolated by Wednesday as the trough moves east.

TROPICS: An area of disturbed weather continues over the Atlantic east of Florida. Upper level wind conditions are becoming a little more favorable for development, so Hurricane Hunter aircraft will investigate later today.

OZONE FORECAST: A yellow air pollution alert remains in effect for Jefferson and Shelby Counties today and Sunday. Especially sensitive people should not over-exert outdoors.

RECORD MADNESS: All-time record high temperatures established on this date include: 121F near Alton, KS and 118F at Minden, NE back in 1936. Las Vegas recorded their al time record high at 117F on this date in 1942. It was 112F at Louisville, GA on this date in 1952, the warmest reading ever in the Peach State.
