...Lots of Summer Sunshine...
Walking out of the TV station last night the air had that "fall" feel to it.
Not exactly what you expect on a mid-summer night in Alabama. The humidity
was low, temperatures were very comfortable, and there was not a cloud to be
found in the sky. On the radar yesterday afternoon, there was not a single
shower to be found across any of Alabama's 67 counties. Another sign this is
a very unusual weather pattern, and representative of the dry air that
covers the state.
That dry air stays in place today, so again we expect a sunny day, a warm
afternoon, and relatively low humidity values. Moisture slowly returns over
the latter half of the week, and a few scattered afternoon storms could show
up by Thursday and Friday.
WEEKEND PEEK: Another surface front approaches Alabama on Saturday, and
should bring an increase in the number of scattered showers and
thunderstorms. I am not so sure this front will push all the way through
Alabama, and some of the models suggest low pressure forming on the front to
the west of the state. So, we will maintain the risk of scattered storms
into Sunday at this time.
TROPICS: A strong tropical wave is moving into the eastern Caribbean this
morning. There is some potential for development as it moves steadily to the
west at about 25 mph.
AIR QUALITY: A code yellow forecast again today for the Birmingham metro
area, meaning air quality is expected to be moderate. We have had very few
code orange alerts so far this summer, which is a good thing!
ROAMING: Birmingham's high yesterday was only 85 degrees, 18 degrees cooler
than Rapid City, SD, where the high was 103.
