...Nice Start To The Week...
GOOD MORNING! Greetings from the Sooner State. This morning's forecast
comes to you from Ardmore, Oklahoma. Texarkana, Denton and the Big D are on
this week's travel schedule. Will be back Friday night in time for the
Saturday forecast package.
THE ALABAMA WEATHER STORY is headlined by a highly amplified weather pattern
across the U.S. That means that the upper air pattern across the country is
characterized by a huge trough in the East that dips all the way to the Gulf
Coast, while the west is under the influence of a huge ridge that extends up
into Canada. It looks more like a springtime pattern than one we would
normally see in July. The trough is allowing some cooler, drier air to seep
down into the Deep South. Drier, sure, but cooler? Well, mainly drier.
Drier air means less in the way of clouds and showers and dry air heats up
better than moist air, so we will actually see normal to slightly above
normal daytime highs this week. The comfortable overnight lows we are
experiencing courtesy of the lower dew points will gradually edge back
upward.
THE WEEK AHEAD: You can expect lots of sunshine today and Tuesday with
lower humidity and nice nighttime readings. A dry front will come through
late on Tuesday, serving to reinforce the current regime. Skies should be
partly cloudy on Wednesday. Our surface flow will start to come out of the
south again by Thursday, bringing back the chance of scattered PM storms for
Thursday and Friday. A better chance of rain should come on Saturday as a
front approaches.
ON THIS DATE IN 2002: Hail larger than eggs in central China killed at
least 15 people. Injured people poured into hospitals after the giant
hailstorms went on a 30 minute rampage in northern Henan province. It had
been a deadly year in China with over 800 people dying in flooding.
