GOOD AFTERNOON! Our cool front did push through much of North
Central Alabama overnight. It continues to slowly move south this
afternoon, having progressed to a line from at least south of Atlanta to
south of Meridian. It is hard to be much more specific about the front's
location beyond that. We have not seen the breezy north winds that we
expected, so we still have a warm, hazy and humid afternoon in place over
North Central Alabama. The drier air should begin to filter into North
Alabama overnight, allowing for clear skies and comfortable overnight
readings in the 60s in most locations.

MONDAY/TUESDAY: Sunny and less humid conditions will prevail as we
move into the new work week. Northerly flow will continue to filter dry air
into the state through Tuesday, keeping our dewpoints in the 60s and making
those humidities a little more bearable. Ironically, the northerly flow
actually means warmer temperatures. With few clouds and no storms, sunshine
will be in full reign, allowing the mercury to rise to seasonable levels.
Expect 90 tomorrow and 91 on Tuesday. A weak front will push through the
state late on Tuesday, but it will be dry.

MIDWEEK AND BEYOND: Wednesday should be a lot like Monday and
Tuesday, with skies partly cloudy and only a slight chance of an afternoon
or evening storms. Our surface flow should become southerly by Thursday,
allowing for increasing moisture levels and raising the coverage of PM
storms to the scattered variety. Believe it or not, another cool front will
approach Alabama starting on Friday, increasing our shower and storm
chances. The best chance for rain will likely come on Saturday as the front
will be in the proximity. It should pass through the area at some point on
Saturday.

IN THE TROPICS: Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are
tracking three tropical waves moving across the tropical Atlantic. None of
them are especially promising, although there seems to be a concentration of
convection with the wave about 300 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. There
was a lot of convection over the northern Gulf this morning, but anything
there would be slow to develop. An upper level low off the Northeast
Florida coast is producing thunderstorms, but development there would be
slow also.

WEATHER NOTEBOOK: Several daily rainfall records were set all
across the country yesterday, from Elko, NV to Charlotte, NC. The 4.14
inches of rain in Charlotte was a daily record. Monroe, LA picked up a
record 3.08 inches of rain. 4.16 inches fell at Raleigh, NC. It was 63 in
Tulsa, OK this morning, setting a new record. Several Oklahoma stations set
new record lows for the date. We will be within about 5 degrees of our
record low come tomorrow morning as a touch of the same airmass that caused
the Sooner State records settles into our area.

ON THIS DATE IN 1987: Eight inches of fresh snow covered the
northern Sierra Nevada Range and the temperature at Susanville, California
dropped to 17!...the wind chill index on Slide Mountain, Nevada, near Reno
was -20 with 52 mph wind gusts.
