AN OCTOBER-ISH FEELING: Unfortunately all of Alabama is not experiencing
the pleasant weather like the northern half of the state but let's celebrate
these morning lows:

59 in Russellville, DeSoto State Park, Russell Cave
National Monument
60 in Decatur, Huntsville, Union Grove, Florence
61 in Cullman and Ft. Payne
62 in Fayette and Collinsville
63 in Pinson
64 in Ashland, Jasper, Talladega
65 in Birmingham, Trussville, Tuscaloosa,
Hackleburg and Black Creek (NE Etowah County)
66 in Wedowee and Shelby County Airport
67 in Anniston

It will be almost that cool again tonight. After that the pesky warm moist
air starts spreading back toward the north and NW. while we will get through
most of Thursday without rain, scattered showers and thunderstorms will show
up later Friday. We think our best chance of rain and the largest amounts
will be over the weekend.

MORE ABOUT MONDAY'S FLOOD: Two gentlemen from Bluff Park gave us very
interesting rainfall totals from the flash flooding Monday afternoon.
Yesterday we mentioned 6.64 inches from Guy Dewees. Today, Fred Martin sent
a photograph of his rain guage which was marked to receive a max of 6.5
inches, but the rain level was clearly one-half inch above that, meaning
about 7 inches!

TROPICAL WEATHER: Clouds and thunderstorms extend from Florida eastward
across the Bahamas and into the Atlantic. All of this was moving slowly
W-NW, but conditions are not favorable for tropical development.

WEEKEND AT THE BEACH: Since school will be starting soon in some areas, you
may be interested in beach weather for the weekend. Look for only a few
showers Thursday and Friday, but an increase in showers and thunderstorms on
Saturday and Sunday with highs near 90. The surf temperature off Dauphin
Island is a very warm 88.

QUICK NOTES: Code yellow again today for our air quality...high in
Starkville, Mississippi yesterday was a cool 77 as compared to 100 on
Sunday...the high was only 73 in Cullman and 75 in Huntsville-about 15
degrees cooler than normal for late July...three inches of rain in Baltimore
in the last 24 hours. The whole Eastern Seaboard was soaked with 2.52 in
NYC...on this date in 1993 during the great Mississippi River flood,
hundreds of burial vaults and caskets were dug out of the ground near
Hardin, Missouri.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly is at the PBS (Puppy Beauty
Shop) today getting a short trim. The place seems so quiet and I miss her a
bunch. I got up at 5:15, poured a cup of coffee at 5:16 and I felt two
little paws sliding down the back of my leg. Yep, she was awake and ready.
There was a nice October-ish feel to our early morning walk. . Miss Molly
jumped a rabbit again near the north end of the walking track. She has
gotten to where she expects that and pokes her little nose in the underbrush
hoping to frighten one of the rabbits every morning. It's just a big part of
her life and I enjoy watching her grow up. Life goes on. Yes, we enjoy it!
