... Drier Air Arrives Later Today...
We will maintain the chance of a few showers across north Alabama this
morning, but noticeably drier air is expected to arrive this afternoon,
pushing the rain into the southern half of the state. The drier air should
mean slightly cooler nighttime temperatures and lower daytime humidity
values through mid-week for areas along and north of interstate 20.
We will not mention any rain in our formal forecast tomorrow and Wednesday
as we expect most of the showers and storms to stay mostly south of
Montgomery. Then, by Friday the muggy air begins to return and we will bring
back the chance of widely scattered storms.
WEEKEND PEEK: A nice surge of tropical moisture, and a developing upper
trough over the central U.S. should mean scattered to numerous thunderstorms
on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, with temperatures peaking in the 88 to 91
degree range for most communities.
MONDAY'S SOAKERS: Flash flooding developed over parts of Jefferson county
yesterday afternoon with some cars submerged in spots around Patton Creek in
Vestavia and Hoover. Numerous other streets were flooded for a time in the
Birmingham metro area. Rain totals included:
Huffman 3.35"
Haleyville 2.77"
Cullman 2.57"
Manchester 2.31"
Alexander City 2.10"
Bessemer 1.97"
Nauvoo 1.91"
Legion Field (B'ham) 1.53"
Ashland 1.49"
Clay 1.38"
Leeds 1.08"
