BACK TO TRIPLE-H WEATHER: That's what we call it occasionally in our long
hot summer. The triple-h stands for hot, humid and hazy. It's true that the
humid part has not been as bad lately, but it will be getting a bit worse
over the next couple of days. Even our temperatures have been fairly
comfortable, but during the next three days look for the highs to heat up a
bit to mostly the low 90s and possibly even some mid 90s.
For about the third morning in a row, we had some nice daybreak
temperatures. A few of those:

59 at DeSoto State Park
61 in Ft. Payne
63 in Pinson, Decatur, Gadsden Airport
64 in Cullman, Huntsville and Tuscaloosa
65 at Anniston Airport

HOW ABOUT RAIN? Not much chance until maybe a few isolated storms show up
Friday afternoon. There could be some scattered showers and thunderstorms,
mainly Saturday afternoon as another "cool front" gets closer to the state.

There is a big question mark whether this front will move through. It may
get down into central Alabama, however, by Sunday giving the northern part
of the state slightly lower humidity and highs dropping back into the upper
80s.

AIR QUALITY: We were under a code orange ozone alert today thanks to the
hotter temperatures, more sunshine and light winds.

TROPICAL WEATHER: The National Hurricane Center was sending an air force
reconnaissance aircraft into the tropical wave late this afternoon. It was
located south of Hispaniola and it has become a little better organized.

There is no evidence so far of a closed surface circulation, but upper level
winds are becoming more favorable for tropical cyclone development. It could
eventually become Alex.

THREE DOT STUFF: A fresh push of unseasonably cool air could bring some
upper 30s to northern Wisconsin and upper Michigan tomorrow night...extremes
in the last 24 hours: 119 in Death Valley, 39 in Stanley, Idaho...2.84
inches of rain in the St. Petersburg-Clearwater area in the last 24 hours,
2.06 in Naples and 1.77 in Ft. Myers...

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I feel sorry for little Miss Molly because our
erratic bedtime can foul up her sleeping routine. Last night I had her out
walking past midnight and out again very early today for our morning walk. I
always have to keep my eyes open for little dangers along the way...this
morning Molly came very close to gobbling up a bee on two occasions and I
pulled her back at the last second...don't think she would have enjoyed a
bee sting on her tongue...near the north end of the walking track, an old
crow was cawing loudly as if in distress. Other crows began to gather around
and I felt sure we were about to have an old crow version of a parking lot
rumble or a community riot. We did not wait to see it. Molly had her city
inspector's hat on this morning...stopping 200 times to check things out. I
finally mentioned the word "treat" and she bolted for home...have to use
psychology at times. Life goes on.
