GOOD AFTERNOON! Alright. I have a confession to make. I really love this
kind of weather. I mean, a juicy, tropical airmass, lots of beautiful
clouds, radars that are lit up like Christmas trees, but no real severe
weather. Warm, but not too hot. You just can't beat it, in my book!

ALABAMA WEATHER STORY: A disturbance moved into Alabama early this morning
and progressed across the northern half of the state. The question mark
shaped rain shield probably produced several one inch amounts from parts of
Walker and Fayette Counties over to Blount, Etowah and Calhoun Counties. We
picked up about a third of an inch here in Trussville, less at the airport.

A little thunder probably heard in places like Cullman and Gadsden, but most
areas experienced just rain.

THIS AFTERNOON/EVENING: Two thunderstorm complexes are moving across
Mississippi and southern Alabama. The first system is spreading heavy rain
and thunderstorms from south of Jackson, Mississippi to Meridian, curving
down to near Pensacola. These storms seem to be firing ahead of a crescent
shaped area of mid level drying that is sliding toward Alabama from
Mississippi. More vigorous cumulus development is occurring further north
in Mississippi along the leading edge of this feature. This may mean that
another round of showers and storms may affect North Central Alabama late
this afternoon and early this evening.

MONDAY: Another significant disturbance was moving across Central
Louisiana this afternoon. This system may spread more showers and storms
into our area late tonight into the predawn hours on Monday morning if it
holds together. We will try to time its progress and intensity trends
through the evening hours. This may well be the last gasp of the dying
upper level system in Texas, which is opening up into an upper trough.
Still, with the also dying front lying around in the midst of lots of warm,
moist air, more scattered storms will develop.

REST OF THE WEEK: Indications are that we will see less in the way of
showers and storms as we head in to the Tuesday/Wednesday time frame. Then,
the GFS model still is trying to develop a weak upper level low just to the
west of Alabama. This would mean increased rain chances as we head toward
the weekend.

WET MONTH: Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile have all registered above
normal rainfall in June. And not just slightly above normal. Here in the
Magic City, we are now 3.21 inches above normal and Montgomery is 3.50
inches above normal. The big winner: Mobile, which is now 9.51 inches
above normal for the month. Other notes: New Orleans is now a whopping
18.27 inches above normal for the year. Houston (Intercontinental) is now
10.85 inches above normal for the month of June.

TRAGIC ANNIVERSARY: Today is the 47th anniversary of Hurricane Audrey.
The Category 4 hurricane made landfall during the morning hours near
Cameron, Louisiana, which was nearly completely inundated by the storm
surge. At least 390 people died in the hurricane, making it the 6th
deadliest in U.S. history.
