A conveyor belt of tropical moisture remains parked over Alabama this
morning. Drier to the north is having a hard time working down this way, so
we will maintain a good chance of a few passing showers or storms today.
Clouds and showers will keep temperatures well below normal for late June,
with highs only in the low 80s for most communities.

We really don’t have much hope of the maritime tropical air moving out
anytime soon, so scattered to numerous showers and storms will remain in our
forecast through the weekend. There should be some decent intervals of
sunshine on Saturday and Sunday, just keep in mind a shower could pass
through just about anytime in this kind of pattern.

Beyond the weekend it is awfully hard to discern specific small-scale
features that will affect our weather, so we will pretty much blanket the
forecast with your standard late June weather pattern with temperatures
running slightly below normal for this time of the year.

LIGHTNING INJURY: A person in Linden was stuck by lightning yesterday around
3:00 as he was sitting near a window. Thankfully the injury was not serious.
That is the second person in the last week to be struck by lightning here in
Alabama, a reminder that lightning is serious business around here,
especially in the summer when thunderstorms are so common.

EXTREMES: At mid-afternoon yesterday the temperature at International Falls,
MN was a chilly 46 degrees with a cold rain falling. In contrast in Alaska,
the temperature in Juneau has topped out at 80 degrees or higher for the
past five days, the longest string of 80 degree plus days on record in that
northern city.
