WHAT'S HAPPENING IN ALABAMA: For the second day in a row showers
were as scarce as hen's teeth across Alabama early this afternoon. (That's
an old West Alabama term.) But the old thermometer was running a little
hotter than yesterday and many communities will top out at 90 or slightly
above.

We foresee a slight increase in showers and thunderstorms for
Saturday, but still not widespread. We still think that our best chance of
showers and storms will be Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. During that three-day
stretch some communities may get between 1 and 2 inches of rain.

A ridge of high pressure was keeping us mostly dry today, but that
will start to weaken. The same cold front that greatly cooled off the
Washington-Baltimore area today may try to sneak into East Alabama from the
NE before the weekend is over. That could enhance our chances of rain on
Sunday. We're also watching a big glob of moisture that will spread
northward through the Gulf of Mexico and approaching the Gulf Coast Monday.

TROPICAL WEATHER: There is a concentration of cloudiness and
thunderstorms over the NW Caribbean. These are being caused by a low
pressure area aloft and tropical storm formation is unlikely. However, it
appears that a lot of moisture from this system will move across the Yucatan
Peninsula and emerge into the Gulf of Mexico. It is expected to continue
northward through the Gulf.

AIR QUALITY: The persistent Code Yellow was still in effect today.
That means moderate air quality. If you are a sensitive person, you should
avoid exerting yourself too much or too long.

JUST TO COOL YOU OFF: Summer is only 10 days away, but overnight as
much as 6 to 12 inches of snow fell in the mountains of Yellowstone National
Park as well as the Grand Tetons and Wind River Mountains. In the Park,
travelers were expected to encounter possible road closures...way far away
at the Amundsen-Scott Station, Anarctica it was 82 below zero with a wind
chill index of 147 below!...lowest in the USA this morning was 29 at
Stanley, Idaho and Barrow, Alaska.

WEEKEND AT THE BEACH: There will be some scattered showers and
thunderstorms Saturday but they will become more numerous on Sunday and
Monday. Highs 85-88.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: We owned three dogs back in the 1970s
and had bad luck with all of them. So, we had not owned another dog until
about 18 months ago. I regret that long void without a little puppy
following me around. She is becoming more and more spoiled and I don't mind
that. She now wants several tummy rubs every day and lately a rub down all
over. Our living area constantly looks like the toy room in a nursery with
obstacles everywhere. She is highly trained at intimidating me into a play
session every time I try to maneuver my way from the weather office to the
kitchen to get a cup of coffee...another very enjoyable walk this morning
and the mockingbirds were very vocal again. One of them was singing much
louder than the rest and I assumed he was the choir director...he reminded
me of a certain gentleman named Dennis, who is our church choir director.
Life goes on and it is more fun because of Little Miss Molly!
