WET WEATHER JUST WON’T LEAVE: Showers and thunderstorms will have the
appearance of a parade as they continue to train from the SW to the NE
across Alabama for the next several days. They will be more numerous tonight
and Friday, but they should thin out some on Saturday and over the weekend.
Even so, there will still be a good chance all the way through Sunday.
Rainfall amounts will be highly variable. A number of Alabama communities
could easily receive two inches in the next 24-36 hours. The front we have
been talking about much of the week finally laid down and died near the
Tennessee border. The whole region south of that stalled front is loaded
with moisture all the way out to SE Texas. As a result, we saw these
rainfall amounts here in Alabama in the last 24 hours:

1.33 inches in Anniston
3.20 between Clay and Pinson (NE Jefferson County)
2.37 in downtown Pinson
2.30 in Brewton
1.15 in NE Trussville (5.16 for the month)
1.17 in Montgomery (7.34 for the month)
1.55 in Muscle Shoals
1.74 in Trafford (NE Jefferson County)
1.56 in Ragland (Neely-Henry Dam)
1.05 in Jasper

TROPICAL WEATHER: A tropical wave, moving WNW over the SE Bahamas, Eastern
Cuba and Jamaica, weakened this morning so tropical storm formation is not
expected. We will continue to wait for Mr. Alex, who will be the first named
storm of the season.

LIGHTNING IS FRIGHTENING: This is Lightning Awareness Week and no one is
more afraid of lightning than I am. Last weekend, 19 persons near Kremmling,
Colorado were struck by lightning but all survived. On June 24, 1924, six
men in North Carolina sought shelter in a quarry near Winston-Salem, but
they went into a building that stored dynamite. Lightning struck a tree and
ran in and caused the dynamite to explode. All of the men died.

PROWLING: A whopping 6.43 inches of rain in the last 24 hours at Warton,
Texas and 2.70 in parts of Houston...a real chill in the air over the Great
Lakes and Upper Midwest. At midday on Devil’s Island in Lake Superior, it
was only 45 degrees with 34 mph wind gusts...it was 29 this morning in
Williston, North Dakota...a hot 92 again in Tetlin, Alaska as their unusual
heat wave continues...Hanford, Washington had 105...Mobile reports the 12th
wettest June so far on record and their records go back 163 years.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Poor little Miss Molly. I haven’t been able to
play with her like I normally do the last several days, so she has been
sleeping a lot extra. She will curl up on her blanket with her favorite ball
hoping I will be ready to play. She likes for me to throw the ball so she
can chase it and bring it back and drop it on my foot. In the living area,
she has stayed close by, often sitting in various chairs with her front legs
and paws on the arm rest. She looks like a little human. She still follows
me wherever I move like she is genuinely concerned about me. Makes me happy.
Life goes on.
