WETTING DOWN ALABAMA: There seems to be an unlimited supply of
moisture-laden air all the way from South and East Texas eastward across
Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. There is plenty more on standby
over the Gulf of Mexico. Various disturbances and an approaching front will
set off showers and thunderstorms at various intervals. For some areas,
heavy rain is going to be a growing problem in this vast blanket of wet air.
For example, in SE Texas in the Galveston-Houston area, they should get
extremely heavy flood-producing rains over the next several days.
The overview for Alabama is a good chance for showers and thunderstorms for
the next three days—numerous at times. However, for tomorrow the most
numerous showers and thunderstorms may occur south of I-20 because of a weak
front drifting down into North Alabama and bringing a bit of drier air. The
northern third of the state, especially the Tennessee Valley, should have
fewer showers and storms tomorrow. The very moist air will quickly win the
battle again and showers and thunderstorms will become more numerous on
Friday. Because of more clouds and showers than usual, the air quality for
the greater Birmingham area is remaining at Code Yellow—moderate.

BAKING IN PARTS OF ALASKA: Exceptionally warm weather has come to Alaska
during the past week. Yesterday it was a very hot 93 in Tetlin, 86 in
Northway and 84 in Juneau. There were even forecasts of temperatures in the
80s earlier for Barrow on the north coast.

LOOKING FAR AND WIDE: First, in the tropics the Atlantic Basin is
exceptionally quiet with no storm formation expected—at least for the next
several days...Mobile has already received 10.37 inches of rain during the
first 22 days of June, but still two inches short for the year...Houston has
had 11.40 this month and they are destined to get a ton more...wind damage
in a number of Alabama counties late yesterday stretching from the Central
part of the state to the Georgia border—mostly trees and power
lines...Jasper got 1.30 inches of rain and numerous communities received 3/4
and one inch...115 in Death Valley yesterday and 29 this morning in
International Falls, Minnesota.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Many thanks to James Spann for covering the
afternoon edition for the last two days. Have been pretty much house bound
since last Saturday, but on the rebound...thanks for all the email best
wishes...not a serious illness, but chills and fever over the
weekend...today is the fifth day in a row that I haven’t walked little Miss
Molly, so I have no stories from the walking track. I had often heard that
pets could tell when you were not feeling well. For the past five days, it
was necessary for me to keep my leg elevated, so I was either sitting in my
recliner, lying on the couch, or on the king-sized bed. Every time I would
move, Miss Molly would be curled up right next to me. She seemed concerned.
..alas, the little critter has been on a crime spree lately. She chewed the
cover off Southern Living. She stole my eye glasses and chewed off the tiny
plastic that rests against my nose...she stole a blouse and chewed out the
shoulder pad...stole my sock and ran fast as she could...sure do miss the
old crows, rabbits, mocking birds and all the varmints that Molly and I see
each day...can’t wait to get out amongst them, our friends...life goes on,
sick or well.
