A SOGGY ALABAMA: Almost all of Alabama has received rain in the last 24
hours and we're not through with the showers and storms yet. They will
continue off and on tonight and there is a good chance of showers and
thunderstorms again Wednesday. After that, on Thursday and through the
weekend the weather will settle down a bit to a more summer-like pattern
with scattered mostly afternoon thunderstorms each day. The outlook for City
Stages weekend in Birmingham is for high temperatures around 90 each day
with scattered, mostly afternoon, thunderstorms. If we had to guess, we
would say about a one in four chance each afternoon
Let's look at a few of the more significant rainfall amounts in the last 24
hours:

1.66 inches at Mobile Airport
2.35 at Montgomery's Dannelly Field
1.62 in Muscle Shoals
1.92 in Troy
1.16 in Carbon Hill
1.25 in Jasper
1.82 in Robertsdale

The stronger storms were over the SE part of the state this afternoon, but
they were all moving northward. The NWS actually issued a tornado warning
for a time for Macon County.

TROPICAL WEATHER: A vigorous tropical wave was 350 miles ESE of the
Windward Islands moving WNW at 15 to 20. It will pass across the Lesser
Antilles tonight and Wednesday. Conditions are not favorable for
development. That disturbance in the Gulf that wanted to be a tropical
depression didn't have time to realize it's ambitions. It moved inland on
the Louisiana coast and was located over North Louisiana this afternoon. A
lot of places, including Alabama, have received substantial rainfall amounts
because of it. In the last 24 hours, 2.40 inches in New Orleans.

HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO LIVE HERE? On June 15, 1896, the temperature reached
127 at Fort Mojave, California. It's still the highest temperature ever
recorded for the month of June in the entire USA. The low that morning was
97. Even the lows did not drop below 100 on three nights...while we're
talking about unusual weather, I was fascinated by an F3 tornado in Denver
on this date in 1988. One man, clinging to a telephone pole for dear life,
lost both shoes, a sock and buttons off of his shirt, but he
was not injured. Don't you know he has a story to tell!

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Walking with little Miss Molly, we were
impressed with how the old crows have returned. Recently they have seemed
more
interested in another tall deceased tree about 200 yards west of the Old
Crow Motel. Naturally we immediately named it the Old Crow Inn Express. We
recently changed dog food for Molly. It was the same brand, but we changed
from puppy chow to adult. It looked almost the same, but she could tell a
difference. We mixed it for the change over, but when she eats she pulls out
the old dog food and sets it aside and will only eat the new. Ah, that
little rascal stays ahead of me. I still love her dearly even if she is a
lot smarter. Life goes on with me playing catch up!
