...Drier Air Arrives This Afternoon...

A "cold front" is passing through north Alabama this morning. Actually more
of a dry line (we don't like to use the term "cold front" in June!), which
has been the focus for showers and storms during the early morning hours.
Any lingering showers this morning will end soon, and dry air should
overspread the northern half of the state this afternoon. So, morning clouds
will give way to afternoon sunshine for most communities. The drier air will
mean a pleasant night tonight with temperatures dropping to near 60 by
daybreak tomorrow.

Dry weather is expected tomorrow with lower humidity values and ample
sunshine.

THE WEEKEND: Only a small risk of a shower on Saturday, but deeper moisture
on Sunday will mean a chance of scattered showers and storms during the
afternoon hours. Daytime temperatures this weekend will peak in the mid to
upper 80s in most places.

TALE OF TWO TWISTERS: An NWS survey team determined that two small tornadoes
did touch down in the Birmingham metro area early Monday. One traveled
through the southern part of Hueytown, and the second one was on the ground
through Bluff Park atop Shades Mountain, and lifted just east of I-65 at
Rocky Ridge Road. Both tornadoes were rated F0.

TULSA TIME: Winds to 83 mph in downtown Tulsa yesterday caused some
significant structural damage to buildings and was responsible for
widespread power outages.

SOUTHWEST HEAT: Phoenix reached 110 degrees yesterday for the first time
this season. The high in Las Vegas and Midland, Texas was 103. Hottest place
in the nation was Death Valley, California with 115.
