...From Tornadoes To Trains...

GOOD MORNING! Hello from Folkston, Georgia. This week it is a different
kind of spotting for me. Not storms, but trains. I am at the site of the
Folkston Funnel, a the place where all north and southbound CSX trains
between Jacksonville and the busy Rice Yard in Waycross, GA. About sixty
trains a day go through here. It is a train watcher's paradise. They have
a beautiful sheltered platform complete with scanner.

SATURDAY FORECAST: Comfortable dew points in the 60 degree range greet the
morning across North Central Alabama. What? Was that the sound of an air
conditioner shutting off? The roar of compressors has been about as bad as
the cicadas in the Mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley with all of our recent humid
conditions. Our friendly cold front has finally deigned to visit the Gulf
Coast, leaving us in slightly less humid air. Won't last long, trust me.
Expect skies to go from partly cloudy to fair to partly cloudy today, then
back to fair to clear tonight, and back to partly cloudy by morning with
overnight lows around 65 degrees. Today and tonight should be shower free,
but...

HOW 'BOUT SUNDAY? By late tonight, our winds will shift around from a
northerly direction to a southeasterly one, and you know what that means.
Humidity levels will increase rapidly. Skies will be generally partly
cloudy on Sunday. With the increased moisture, we will see the return of a
chance of afternoon showers and storms.

HEADING TO THE WORK WEEK: Monday may feature even more in the way of
precipitation chances. We will settle into a summertime pattern of partly
cloudy with scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. It will be warm
and humid through the coming week. Rain chances may increase again on
Friday.

OZONE ALERT: The Air Quality Index in the Jefferson/Shelby area is in the
YELLOW alert category today and tomorrow with the main pollutant being
ozone. The yellow alert means that especially sensitive individuals should
avoid prolonged outdoor exertion.
